Accessible taxis and Private Hire Vehicles (PHV) can provide excellent assistance and door-to-door services for blind and partially sighted (BPS) people. This makes them a great transport solution for BPS people, who may face barriers when accessing public transport.

But, despite the benefits, BPS people face significant barriers to accessing them. This includes the high cost when compared to public transport, a lack of driver understanding of sight loss and guide dog refusals.

Our Sight Loss Councils work closely with local transport authorities and providers to raise awareness around the issues BPS people face in accessing taxis and private hire vehicles to increase their accessibility.

#MakeAppsAccessibleModern transport is becoming ever more reliant on smartphone-based applications to provide passengers with the information they need. Our work focusses on making sure that new technology works for blind and partially sighted (BPS) people by removing accessibility issues, not imposing new ones. Read more
