Gloucestershire and Swindon

Welcome to the Gloucestershire and Swindon Sight Loss Council page.

At Gloucestershire and Swindon Sight Loss Councils (SLC), we provide a welcoming and supportive environment where motivated blind and partially sighted (BPS) people can create meaningful change in their local communities. We are led by blind and partially sighted people who are passionate about advocating for the needs of BPS people across the region.

Gloucestershire SLC launched in January 2020, and we expanded into Swindon in November 2025. Growing into Swindon means more blind and partially sighted people can shape services, challenge barriers, and help build a region that truly works for everyone.

We are committed to empowering our members to take pride in their achievements and the difference they make. Together, we work on projects that truly matter: improving accessibility, raising awareness of the challenges faced by people with sight loss, and influencing local organisations, businesses, and service providers to bring about lasting change.

By joining us, you’ll have the opportunity to share your experiences, shape the future of your community, and build lasting friendships with like-minded people.

If you are blind or partially sighted and live in Gloucestershire or Swindon and want to be a voice for blind and partially sighted people in your area, we’d love to hear from you.

Let’s work together to make our region a better, more inclusive place for everyone.

Why should I volunteer?

We are currently looking for members who live in the Swindon area. Please note that we are not currently taking applications in Gloucestershire.

If you want to make a real difference in your local area on the issues that affect blind and partially sighted people, joining our Sight loss Council could be the perfect volunteering opportunity for you.

Join us

You will work with policy makers and local service providers to improve access for blind and partially sighted people in your local community. It is also a great opportunity to come together with other blind and partially sighted people in your area.

“Sight Loss Councils give you an opportunity to join with a group of people from all walks of life. Each bringing their experiences, with the purpose of focusing on the issues concerning sight impaired and blind people. We have fun too!”
