“I was blown away by the talent and excited to see how many people registered. We are an open employer and want to make sure construction is a career open to all.”

The job fair was open to all disabilities including those with autism, and tailor-made to suit those living with a range of disabilities.

Working with over 20 different Disability Confident employers, opportunities were made available to people with disabilities. The Sight Loss Council worked with sector leading organisations and service providers to arrange the event such as Sense, Job Centre Plus, BID Services, RNIB and Birmingham Vision.

The aim of the Pan-Disability Job Fair was to facilitate introductions to potential employers. This would allow participants to discuss job opportunities and positions within the Birmingham region. It was also a fantastic forum for open dialogue regarding the variety of jobs available to all and the attendees previous experiences of inaccessible recruitment processes.

The event was a huge success with a large number of attendees and positive feedback. One job seeker stated “The job fair was refreshing, very interesting with open and honest discussions. I would definitely come again as it has been good for both work and volunteering opportunities.”

We will continue to monitor the longer-term impact over the coming weeks and replicate the successes in the future. You can read the press release for the job fair here
