Sight Loss Councils mourn the passing of Gary Tunney

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our friend and Greater Manchester Sight Loss Council member has passed away.

Our condolences go to his family and friends.

Gary was a true gentleman and will be hugely missed both personally and for his work at the Sight Loss Council (SLC). He actively advocated for blind and partially sighted people in his community after losing his sight suddenly in October 2017. He was one of the founding members of Greater Manchester SLC when it launched in March 2020.

Matt Cliff, Engagement Manager (North West), said:

“Gary was always very vocal, had a great sense of humour and a passion for making a difference. We will miss him.”

He promoted visually impaired sports and technology for blind and partially sighted people, worked to raise the issues around e-scooters with Lime (operating in Rochdale and Salford) and shared his ideas for future campaigns at the recent SLC conference.
