Purple Tuesday 2018

Purple Tuesday is an accessible shopping day, established to recognise the importance and needs of disabled consumers and promote inclusive shopping. It is organised by the disability organisation Purple and endorsed by the Department for Work and Pensions. Retailers promote their involvement on the day with events taking place on high streets and shopping centres. The aim for Purple Tuesday is for every participating retailer to make at least one long term commitment aimed at improving the experience of customers with disabilities.

On Purple Tuesday 2018, the Birmingham and Black Country Sight Loss Councils visited the Bullring to talk to retailers about the experiences of blind and partially sighted people shopping. Working with Guide Dogs, training was offered to many retailers and feedback given.

We are working with retailers going forward to improve the user journey and service experienced by blind and partially sighted shoppers.
