Try a Train: Supporting confident travel in North London
Friday 13 March 10:00am - 1:30pm
Kings Cross Station, Euston Road, London, N1C 4AP
Are you blind or partially sighted and looking to feel more confident using the railway? North London Sight Loss Council, in partnership with Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR), is hosting a Try a Train event at King’s Cross Station.
This supportive, hands-on session offers the opportunity to explore station facilities and trains in a relaxed and accessible setting, helping you build confidence with rail travel alongside trained staff and sighted guides.
During the event, you will:
- Assistance On-Hand: Learn about the assistance offered at stations and onboard, ensuring a smoother travel experience.
- Experience a Short Journey: Take a short, guided train trip to Potters Bar Station, where you’ll have the chance to familiarise yourself with onboard facilities.
- Q&A Session: Participate in an informative Q&A at Potters Bar Station with representatives from Govia Thameslink Railway.
- Return Journey: After the session, you’ll return to Kings Cross Station.
Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. If the event reaches capacity, we will operate a waitlist.

Liam O’Carroll, London SLC Engagement Manager at Thomas Pocklington Trust, said:
“We are once again thrilled to be partnering with Govia Thameslink Railway to host another ‘Try a Train’ event, this time in South East London.
“We value their support and commitment to making the network more accessible to blind and partially sighted people.
“These events are a fantastic opportunity for people to build confidence when navigating stations, meeting staff, and experiencing a live train journey – perhaps for the first time.
“By keeping the groups deliberately small, we can make sure everyone gets the time, attention and reassurance they need to leave feeling better equipped to travel independently.”
Antony Merlyn, Accessibility Engagement Manager for GTR, said:
“Govia Thameslink Railway’s ‘Try a Train’ events are a proven way for disabled people to explore stations and experience rail travel in a safe and supported way.
“We recently hosted two trips at Sutton and Wimbledon stations for blind and partially sighted passengers, in partnership with Thomas Pocklington Trust, South Western Railway and Transport for London Travel Mentoring Team. Attendees explored the stations, met our team, and took Thameslink journeys between Sutton and Wimbledon.
“Feedback was really positive and we now look forward to hosting the event again, this time between Kings Cross and Potters Bar in March.”
