Build Confidence on the Tracks – Try a Train with West Yorkshire Sight Loss Council

West Yorkshire Sight Loss Council (SLC) has partnered with Northern to host a practical ‘Try a Train session designed to help blind and partially sighted people build confidence when travelling by rail.
This hands‑on event will give you the chance to explore the station environment, understand how passenger assistance works in real situations, and experience a supported train journey with guidance from Northern staff and Sight Loss Council volunteers.
During this Try a Train event, you will:
- Explore Station Facilities: Discover the accessible features and services at Leeds station around the support available for blind and partially sighted passengers.
- Assistance On-Hand: Learn about the assistance offered at stations and onboard, ensuring a smoother travel experience.
- Experience a Short Journey: Take a short, guided train trip from Leeds station to a mystery location, where you’ll have the chance to familiarise yourself with onboard facilities.
- Ask questions along the way: Staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions throughout the event.
- Return Journey: After the session, you’ll return to Leeds station.
Spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. If the event reaches capacity, we will operate a waitlist

- Monday, 11 May, 10.30am – 1.30pm (book your place by Midday, Friday 8 May)
- Meeting point – Passenger assistance station point, located on the main concourse near the ticket office.
