Inquiry into Pavement Parking

Pavement Parking is a major issue for blind and partially sighted people. Their lives are put at risk from oncoming cars as they are unable to see how the pavement is blocked and are forced to walk into the road. For this reason, pavement parking presents a major health and safety issue for blind and partially sighted people.

Due to this, the Black Country and Birmingham Sight Loss Council members were compelled to act and joined with other Sight Loss organisations such as Guide Dogs and the RNIB to submit a response to the inquiry by the Transport Select Committee.

You can download and read the full response here.

We are pleased to say this response was published as evidence by Parliament and Sight Loss Councils were mentioned in the final report by the Transport Select Committee. The best outcome by far has to be that MPs have recommended a ban on pavement parking across England. The fact that the voice of blind and partially sighted people to be heard on a national level shows the power of Sight Loss Councils. More information on the report can be found here.
